Root Devices+ recently noted a paradox: “VCs love to talk about AI, but they’re not writing as many checks as you might think.” Perhaps because they don’t have to make new investments to own shares of AI companies.

“A lot of existing investments are starting to go into AI — about two companies every month,” Day One Ventures founder and general partner Masha Bucher told me.

For example, email app Superhuman is one of the startups in its portfolio that has recently dabbled in artificial intelligence.
